Minnesota is famous for its
"Do-It-Yourself" approach to rock & roll. From Dylan to the Replacements to
Prince, there has always been a certain originality that somehow defines a sort
of "Minnesota" sound.
That same approach is not lost on Trashville's self-titled debut CD, or on their
live shows for that matter. For years, Terry Newman and Gerry Allen fronted the
Benders, born out of their own acoustic duo, along with rhythm ace drummer Jim
Pietila and a succession of talented bass players. When Texas music scene
veteran Brett Reid joined the band on bass, it became obvious that a new entity
was now in existence - Trashville.
Think of Trashville as a mythical place where Hank gets even for being fired
from the Opry, where Mick doesn't get knighted, but Keith gets elected mayor.
Trashville is where there's more twang in the guitars and a little less twang in
the vocals. This is where the lion of rock & roll lies down with the lamb of
country music, and they both pass out - drunk and happy, to a Muddy Waters
lullaby!
